Introduction – Mr Raj Shrestha, Founder of Lets Clean Up Nepal.

This is a short story from Mr Raj Shrestha about how he started Let’s clean up Nepal. I am a mountain guide in Nepal and this profession has given me the opportunity to travel around Nepal Himalayas and other parts of Nepal. Every time I went to different parts of Nepal I noticed so much rubbish everywhere! Villages, cities, rivers and mountains were full of garbage. I have traveled to many places since 2012 but at that stage I didn’t feel that I needed to act because I could

    #foodfornepal fundraising campaign

Take one global pandemic, add a lockdown in Nepal, take away tourism generated income or daily wage earning capacity, add a food crisis for hungry families, mix in an international group of women with a passion for Nepal, bring it all together with a Nepali NGO and what do you get ? You get the #foodfornepal (brought to you by Let’s Clean Up Nepal) fundraising campaign, aimed at raising money for emergency food relief for families in rural areas of Nepal as well as the Kathma

#foodfornepal – a good news story in Chepang Village

(From founder of LCUN – Raj) We recently went to Chitwan Ichyakamana Rural Municipal (Chepang Village) for a short visit. We discovered poverty in this area. The people live separately from each other, with houses spread out on different hillsides. It was so nice to learn about their lifestyle and culture, and meet the nice and kind people. Most of the families have more than 5 children, and the parents used to work as daily wage earners in construction, building roads, house

    River Clean Up – Jalbire

We recently held a big river clean up day in Jalbire Sindhupalchok. All the villagers have been throwing their garbage in the river, ever since plastic was introduced into this valley. The exception is the Clean Village Project where LCUN has been educating the villagers and setting up waste management to reduce, reuse and recycle the trash. Nowadays more people are using plastic bags, choosing junk food , wasting food packaging etc. This river is our natural swimming pool an

    Sonam Lhosar

On the occasion of Sonam Lhosar, the team of Let’s Clean Up Nepal‘s contributed a little to the waste management of the huge event by installing recyclable sacks as dustbins at Tundhikhel ground which was very well achieved. We also put out our official posters along with the bins displaying the message “Act now for tomorrow”. Our goal was/is to change the mindset of people that their personal efforts to keep the environment clean can make a difference. We want people to use

Waste Management Proposal for Annapurna Region

We were in Annapurna for a few days recently and this trip was considered ‘something different’ than the last few clean up awareness campaigns. We both (@letscleanupnepal and @cleancity.global) are trying to set up Waste Manangemet in the Annapurna region. We had a very fruitful meeting with the local ward chairman, Annapurna Conservation Area project (ACAP) officer, hotel association chairman, female leader, youth club leader and locals. Successful meetings We met with many

Duskut – Empowering the new generation with quality education.

By Raj Shrestha We recently travelled to the Shree Bhimsen Secondary School in Duskut Sindhupalchok. The students there face many problems such as menstruation hygiene issues, poor oral hygiene, poor hand washing, lack of clean drinking water, sexual harassment in society, and limited education regarding girl & boy puberty etc. We were very happy to have a chance to visit the School and community. As we know life can be hard in Nepal, but we usually take it as it comes, and

Duskot Village – Education visit (Part 2: Shree Bhimsen Secondary School)

On arrival in Duskot, we grabbed all our gear and made our way up the narrow path to the Shree Bhimsen Secondary School. We were met by the very attentive caretaker who opened up two classrooms for us. We would be sleeping in these classrooms. Raj in one room, and the 5 girls and I in another. We had mats and sleeping bags with us but the caretaker kindly brought some pillows and covers for us to use to keep comfortable and warm. We stopped for a short while to have tea and b

Duskot Village – Education visit (Part 1: The journey to Duskot)

In November 2019 I enjoyed a fabulous trek to Everest Base Camp. This was something I had wanted to do for a few years, and something I had failed at in 2018. (See my other blog https://livethelifeyoulove148822353.wordpress.com/2019/01/06/the-day-the-mountains-beat-me-ss/ ) Whilst the Everest Base Camp trek was difficult, yet so awesome, it was what I did next that made my trip to Nepal one of the most amazing adventures of my life. After EBC I returned to Kathmandu where I f

Gorkha – Menstrual Education Trip to Local School

Recently we were at the Shree Janakalyan secondary school in Tallo Gore, Gorkha. We were trying to exchange the knowledge with our beautiful students about menstrual hygiene. As we know, most of the women and girls have been facing many problems during their periods. We would like to see all the women and girls healthy. That’s why we came to this village’s school and provided special education about menstruation hygiene. Already many girls have their period but some younger g

Help A Sister In Nepal – part 1

To everyone who donated, bought home made rocky road, or came to the movie night, this is what it was all about. The money raised went to a foundation called Let’s Clean Up Nepal. Founder Raj and his team (Geeta, Sara, Sonam, Dikshya and Amrita) were able to provide health education sessions at a school in Duskot, Sindhupalchok. They covered oral hygiene, hand hygiene, puberty, sexual harassment and women’s sanitary health options. Money raised bought toothbrushes and toothpa

    Gosaikunda Lake

We have been following Let’s clean up Nepal ‘s message ” Leave no trace ” and carried out 1kg trash from Gosaikunda Lake to the city, where we can recycle, reuse all the emty bottels, cans and plastic etc. Our message is reduce pollution in the mountain and encourage all travellers and locals to protect mother nature. These days locals are burning plastic, cans and bottlese, leaving a mess everywhere. If we carry out everything that we brought for hiking, and at the same time

    Meeting Susmita

It made my day when I had the opportunity to meet Susmita Kafle and help educate her. We have been educating our young sisters and mothers by giving them reusable sanitary pads for the last 5 years. We have already taken this awareness programme to different villages in remote areas of Nepal. We are focusing on more remote areas where they really need our support. This time we are not far from the city, its only about 80 km from Kathmandu. There is a big village with more tha

Even 10 pieces of trash makes a difference !

Recently during a trek my health was not 100%. Sadly at that time I wasn’t feeling well and could not do my usual chore of picking up loads of trash and cleaning up the mountain. I could only pick up minimal amounts of trash and that day, on my way back down, I was only able to pick up 10 pieces. I would have liked to pick up all the trash but my body just would not let me. Despite my body giving up, my heart still wanted to clean up, but I was only able to pick up 10 pieces.

Our green traveler @ramblin_reinhold (Steven, creater of #trashtag challange ) is going to the Narphu Valley with his big group(10 person) and some nepalese guides & porters as well. They will clean up the trekking paths and will be following ” Leave No Trace” principal. One interesting thing is going to happen – He will put our posters in the guest houses to help increase education and awareness of all the travelers. Thank you very much for your great support to reduce poll
